I plan to go to the Maldives in February, but now all the accomodation seems to be £100 for one nights. Do hostels exist,I would like to spend no more than $100/day there, is this feasible? I am open to renting an apartment along with the prospect of hostels or camping sites.Does anyone know of any budget hotel/guesthouse options in Male, Maldives
You're going to need more money. Unless they've built one in the last two years (which is highly unlikely), there are no hostels - the Maldives does not have the infrastructure to cater for 'cheap-end' tourists.
You may find somewhere that's semi-reasonably priced on Male, but there's not much to do there and to go anywhere else will cost. You may be better off looking for a live-aboard boat trip, but even there, you're looking at $100 (£50) a day upwards. I'm just looking at my Lonely Planet book and, even in 2003 when it was published, budget resorts were over $100 a night.
how about checking for special offers with various travel agents. Or check out Explore Worldwide They do an 8-day trip boat trip that includes flights and food for just over £1000. I did that trip and thought it was fantastic, although note that you're not staying on a luxury boat. You'll need a bit extra for drinks, tips etc.
